How to Use Firefly

5x Olympian Kerri Walsh Jennings demonstrates how to use Firefly Recovery. Firefly is easy to use and portable so you can recover faster while keeping up with your active lifestyle.

Firefly is so simple you can learn to use it in minutes.

Recover faster, train harder

Firefly is a revolutionary recovery device used by professional athletes, Olympians, and weekend warriors. It helps your body to recover faster by increasing blood flow throughout your entire body. Firefly is small and portable, so you can take it with you wherever you go.

Firefly stimulates blood flow

Firefly sends small electrical pulses to stimulate your peroneal nerve (in your leg) creating a slight foot "flutter" which increases blood flow by 400%.

Recover Faster. Train Harder.

A revolutionary full-body recovery device used by professional athletes, Olympians, and weekend warriors to recover 3X faster.

More blood & oxygen

Increased blood flow means your muscles get more oxygen and nutrients. This helps your body to recover from exercise faster and reduces soreness.

locating the fibular head to attach you Firefly Recovery Band
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1

Identify proper placement

Locate the fibular head

Firefly is easiest to place if you are seated and your legs are bent.

How do I locate the fibular head?
To find the fibular head, start at your outer ankle bone and follow the side of your leg up toward your knee until you reach the fibular head (or bony spot), which is just below the knee on the outside of the leg.

Why is the fibular head important?
Locating the fibular head is important in order to stimulate the peroneal nerve, which is located near here. Stimulating the nerve will cause your feet to twitch (the "Firefly flutter") causing increased blood flow and circulation to enhance recovery.

Step 2

Apply Firefly

Prep the Firefly
Carefully peel off the plastic backing and save it to store the device. Take care not to get any debris on the gel as it helps to ensure conductivity and adhesion.

Place the device
Ensure the application area is clean and dry. Place the device so that the raised indicator line (marked with arrows) is positioned at the center of the fibular head.

Confirm the position is correct
The circular head of the device should be positioned towards the front of the leg - with the tail of the device wrapped around to the back of the calf, just below the crease of the knee.

Step 3

Turn the device ON/OFF

How to turn the device ON
Quickly press the (+) button to turn on.

How to Increase and Decrease levels
There are 7 levels and the light will blink to indicate the level (2 flashes = level 2). You may need to increase the level so that your feet will twitch.
Slowly raise the intensity by pressing the (+) button or decrease the intensity by pressing the (-) button. Find a level that is comfortable while also providing a slight "flutter" of your feet.

How to turn the device OFF
After using the Firefly, press the (-) button and hold for 3-seconds to power OFF. After you remove the device, replace the plastic backing for storage.

Simply wrap the Firefly recovery band around your muscles and let the recovery begin!

Step 4

Use the Firefly knee strap to secure the device (optional)

How to Use Knee Strap
Firefly™ works best when used with knee straps. Place the knee strap over the device and gently secure in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Firefly device reusable/rechargeable?

The Firefly device is reusable during the 30-hour life of the battery and can be used for multiple recovery sessions. Afterwards, the battery can be removed and recycled like any household battery. The Firefly device is not rechargeable at this time. We are looking at ways to extend the life of the product and make Firefly rechargeable.

Is the Firefly similar to other recovery technologies?

The Firefly looks like a muscle stim but is similar to pneumatic compression. Both modalities increase blood flow. The Firefly is unique as it moves 3X more blood, is fully portable, and mobile. This allows for on-the-go recovery anywhere, anytime. Click here for a modality comparison.

How many Firefly do I need?

The number of Firefly you need depends upon how you use the product, i.e. for warm-up, recovery, and/or travel, the number of times you use it per week and the length of your recovery sessions.

Scenario 1: Low to Moderate Intensity Workouts

  • Workout Frequency: 1-3 times per week.
  • Firefly Usage: 1-2 hours per session.
  • Firefly Devices Required per Month: 1 device (provides up to 30 hours of recovery)

In this scenario, you're engaged in less intense or moderate workouts, 1-3 times per week. Using the Firefly device for 1-2 hours each session will support optimal recovery.

Scenario 2: High-Intensity Workouts or Active Travel

  • Workout Frequency: 5+ times per week.
  • Firefly Usage: 2-4 hours per session.
  • Firefly Devices Required per Month: 2 devices (provides up to 60 hours of recovery)

If you're partaking in high-intensity workouts five or more times per week or you're often on the move, this scenario is more suitable. Using the Firefly device for 2-4 hours per session, 4-7 times a week will greatly aid in recovery.

Remember, the number of Firefly devices you should get largely depends on your individual recovery needs. Plan accordingly to get the most benefit from your Firefly devices.
