Firefly Use Cases and Clinical Studies

Rutgers University Women’s Basketball
The Firefly Recovery Device has not only transformed how I treat overall leg soreness with my athletes, but also how I approach the initial healing phase of lower extremity injuries such as ankle sprains. Our team has a short roster this season which has emphasized our need for the best recovery tools possible, in order to maintain the health and availability of our athletes throughout the long collegiate basketball schedule.  Following games where one of our basketball players hits a higher-thanaverage mileage and intensity, we will put the firefly devices... University of Cincinnati TF/XC Athletic Trainer – Zach Turner
Highlights some of the common challenges his patient population faces and how the Firefly has helped these athletes. If you have ever been around college athletics, you are aware that these athletes are always on the-go; their days are filled with lifts, classes, practices, meetings, study hall, and hopefully having time to eat and be social. The common complaint I get from athletes is that they don’t have the time to recover in the day; they are always on their feet. Taking 30-60 mins to recover in the athletic training... Read more...

I wanted to share our typical recovery protocol scenario where we combine Firefly in combination with other modalities in a conference tournament type-scenario. Same would be used in an NCAA Tournament scenario. We generally have 4-5 players who are at or above 30 mins/game and really enjoy the Firefly as their recovery modality of choice.  Departure Day:  Firefly application after team practice & shower Prior to flight  Wear for duration of flight  Turn off at bed-time  Practice Day:  Team Activation prior to practice; emphasis ankle/knee/hip musculature  Team Stretch post-practice  Ice... Firefly has been instrumental in our recovery and rehabilitation efforts that the University of Illinois. We have rolled out a program giving Firefly units to our high rep and high yardage athletes before we go to the hotel for home games or leave for away trips. The guys all receive a Firefly device as well as Teamworks message with the instructions on how to use the device for the 24 hours before and after the game. Firefly Testimonial - University of Cincinnati
Firefly has become a multi-purpose intervention for us at the University of Cincinnati. It’s versatility, portability and simplicity allow us to use it within our full clinical creativity. I think arguably the best capability of the FireFly is that it allows us to continue our intended treatment beyond your normal operating environment within your sports medicine facility. Many modalities and treatment interventions need to happen within the clinic for one reason or another (i.e. power/electricity needs, safety, cost of the device/unit, etc.). Having the ability to continue your care when... Read more...
Buffalo Football – Firefly Use Case
Acute Injury Care We have been using Firefly for almost all acute injury care, especially lower extremity. If a football player sustains a lower body injury, they will be given a Firefly unit and will be instructed to use the device on the injured side. The athlete will be advised to use the unit as much as they possibly can that night; the duration of our flight or bus ride (if the injury occurs during a game), or until they are going to bed for home games. I usually encourage... Read more...
West Virginia Football Firefly Use Case: Zach Foster AT
We started using Firefly a few years ago at West Virginia University Football. One of the main reasons we wanted to give Firefly a try was working to find better treatment modalities that we could provide our student-athletes while they were in class or during off hours. One of the drawbacks of many other products on the market is the cords, wires, and chargers associated with those devices. We loved that Firefly was a stand-alone unit easily controlled by the student-athlete. Additionally, many of the other portal devices we... Read more...
Colorado Eagles
As a strength and conditioning coach for the Colorado Eagles, my focus on recovery consumes a lot of my energy and focus. Given the travel demands of the AHL and ours in Colorado, being so remote from other AHL teams. Firefly has emerged as a key ally, addressing the unique challenges of recovery on the road. Athletes wear the device during flights, bus rides, in the hotel, pre-game and between periods maximizing every opportunity for enhanced recovery. Subjective Wellness Impact: The portability of Firefly is a game-changer, especially during road... Read more...
Texas Stars Hockey Club Firefly Utilizations
Game-day: On a game-day we like to use the firefly for the players to wear back from the rink during their naps or afternoon activities between morning skate and the game. This is especially useful on the road when we are limited to resources and extra staff help (at home we have PT and massage therapist available throughout the week, which we do not have on the road). Travel Day: We offer the Firefly to as many players as possible at the airport to wear for the duration of the... Read more...
UB Volleyball Firefly Testimonial
My athletic training philosophy relies heavily on optimization of the body’s natural recovery systems and prevention of injuries. This past season we were able to purchase a box of Firefly units for volleyball. Having some great experience using Firefly for acute injuries in years past, I was excited to put them to use during the competitive season for recovery as well. During preseason tournaments we have up to three matches in a weekend, so adding Firefly to our tournament recovery routine was beneficial. As we progressed during the season, using... Read more...
